Alfresco 2017 – Closing Ceremony

Boys’ High School (BHS) and College clinched the prestigious ‘Alfresco 2017 Championship Trophy’ by outclassing ten prominent Schools at the three-day mega Inter Institutional Cultural and Games Extravaganza which concluded here on Wednesday evening. The runners up trophy went to the Girls’ High School (GHS) and College while St. Joseph’s College came third. The Chief Guest on this occasion was Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) V. Eusebius, Principal, Girls’ High School and College. Rev. G. Daud, Secretary of Allahabad High School Society was the guest of honour.
This year, 23 competitive events were held. Of them, seven were in junior category, eight in senior category and eight in open category. The participants who excelled at the events and emerged as winners were felicitated for their achievements at a glittering prize distribution ceremony held at the renovated state-of-art Middle School Hall. Principals and representatives of the participating schools were also present on this occasion.
In all, nearly 350 students from 11 prominent schools namely, Barnes School and Junior College (BSJC), Deolali, Nashik, Girls’ High School (GHS) and College, St. Joseph’s College (SJC), Mary Lucas School (MLS) and College, Benhur High School and College, YMCA Centenary School and College, Tagore Public School (TPS), Dwarika Prasad Public School (DPPS), Jagat Taran Golden Jubilee School (JTGJS), the host, Boys’ High School (BHS) and College and BHS Annexe Holy Trinity School (HTS).
The first event on the final day of Alfresco 2017 was Dumb Charades in which the participants were silent performers. The performers proved their caliber through acting that actions speak louder than words. Each school team was represented by three members. They were given a topic on any one of the following—English motion pictures, films, taglines and books and one participant has to mime and the two had to guess the correct answer. The event was a grand spectacle as the participants exhibited the expression of thoughts of young minds via their amazing dramatic skills.
The penultimate event of the day was Jingle…The Ad’ Effect. The theme for this year’s Jingle was `A news channel on television.’ The participating school teams were judged on the selection of news, display, originality, dialogue, costumes and overall presentation.
The last and the much-awaited event on the three-day closing ceremony was `The Fashion Show’ on the theme Zodiac Signs. The participants creatively represented the temperament and behavior of the zodiac signs through their modeling skills. The young models set the stage on fire as they walked on the ramp with confidence and exuberance. The show left the audience spell-bound and wanting for more. The fashion show transported us into the world of colours and festivity as the participants were dressed up colourfully and aptly according to their zodiac signs.
The chief guest Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) V. Eusebius distributed prizes to the winners of the cultural and games events. Earlier, the BHS Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke congratulated the winners and motivated others who could not win the prizes. In the end, the Academic Supervisor, Mrs. C. B. Luke proposed a vote of thanks. She acknowledged the tireless efforts put in by the staff and students alike to make this event a memorable one. The Cultural Captain, Tanishk Goyal thanked the BHS principal for providing a platform and giving an opportunity to the students to showcase their talents in this cultural and games fest.
