Two-day ASISC UP and UK Regional Swimming Meet starts

Excitement, enthusiasm and grandeur marked the inaugural ceremony of ASISC UP and UK Regional Swimming Meet hosted by Boys’ High School (BHS) and College, for boys and girls on September 1, 2018. The regional swimming meet was inaugurated by the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke. The Swimming Meet will conclude on September 2, 2018. Arjun Awardee Mr. Abhinn Shyam Gupta, a renowned badminton player, will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Nearly 125 swimmers from eight zones, namely, Agra, Allahabad, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Lucknow (Zone A), Lucknow (Zone B), Kanpur (North) and Meerut are participating in the regional swimming meet. The swimming meet is held in two categories—Junior boys and girls and Senior boys and girls. The junior category comprises participants under 17 years while the senior category consists of participants under 19 years. The competition will held in both the junior and senior categories in 50 mts and 100 mts, breast stroke, back stroke, butterfly, free style and 4×100 mts relay.

The programme commenced with a special song by the BHS Choir followed by a short prayer recited by Mr. J. Lawrence. The highlight of the opening ceremony was the Swim Past by the swimmers of Allahabad Zone. Amidst thunderous applause, the swimmers displayed various formations culminating with the display of banner “BHS Welcomes You”.

Inaugurating the ASISC UP and UP Regional Swimming Meet, the BHS Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke welcomed the young swimmers and their support staff to this prestigious competition and hoped that their stay in Boys’ High School and College would be comfortable and a memorable one. He urged the young competitors to compete with a spirit of grit and determination and display high-level of sportsmanship during the event.

On the first day, 24 events were conducted for both junior and senior boys and girls in 50 mts and 100 mts breast stroke, back stroke, butterfly, free style swimming.
