Three-day Inter-Institutional Cultural and Games Extravaganza, ‘Alfresco-2018’ begins at BHS amidst great fanfare

Prof. Yogeshwar Tiwari, Head, Department of Medieval and Modern History, University of Allahabad stressed on the importance of social values and termed it as the binding force of society. He was speaking as chief guest at the opening ceremony of the three-day Inter-Institutional Cultural and Games Extravaganza, ‘Alfresco-2018’, on Thursday. The Secretary, Allahabad High School Society, Rev. G. Daud was the Guest of Honour.

Prof. Tiwari praised Boys’ High School and College for providing a platform to the students to showcase their talent and learn from their fellow participants. He asked the students to display humility in winning and dignity in loosing. He wished all the participating teams the very best for the upcoming events and declared the Alfresco 2018 open amidst thunderous applause.

The three-day mega fest aims to facilitate personality development, confidence building and inter-personal relationships among the students fraternity. The glittering ceremony began with a prayer by Rev. G. Daud followed by the lighting of the candles. Thereafter the Cultural Captain Harsh Gaur took oath on behalf of the participating teams followed by lighting of the candles. The School Choir rendered a melodious song “We are the world”.
The BHS Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke extended a very warm welcome to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, principals of the participating schools, participants of the educational institutions taking part in this three-day mega fest. The College Captain, Laksh Kawatra threw light on the history of Alfresco and how it is evolved into a mega event during the past few years.

Nearly 350 enthusiastic boys and girls of 12 participating schools took part in this mega event. The participating schools were Girls’ High School (GHS) and College, St. Joseph’s College (SJC), Mary Lucas School (MLS) and College, YMCA Centenary School and College, Tagore Public School (TPS), Dwarika Prasad Public School (DPPS), Jagat Taran Golden Jubilee School (JTGJS), Devprayag Public School, Patanjali Rishikul (PRS), Erny Memorial Senior Secondary School and the host, Boys’ High School (BHS) and College and BHS Annexe Holy Trinity School (HTS).

The first on stage event of the day was Interlocution, followed by Sur Sangam, Mime, Razzmatazz, Sing-Along and Rock On. The off-stage events were Creative Muse, Mask Making and Crazy Eight. Each event was a delight as the participants from various educational institutions locked horns to bring laurel for their Alma Mater. The spectacle was a treat for everyone present. The first day ended on a high note leaving the audience wanting for more. The function was conducted by Mr. L. A. M. French, In-charge, College Section.
