157th Annual Sports Day


Saint George’s (Red) House clinched the prestigious Athletic Cup at the 157th Annual Sports Day of Boys’ High School (BHS) and College held at the sprawling lush green field amidst great mirth, verve and camaraderie. The much sought after Cock House Cup was bagged by St. Andrew’s (Blue) House while St. Patrick’s (Green) House was the runner up. Dr. Shalini Singh, Second In Command/Chief Medical Officer, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was the chief guest.

On her arrival, the chief guest was warmly received by the Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke and the Academic Supervisor, Mrs. C. B. Luke. The occasion was graced by the alumni, administrative officials and Principals of the prominent educational institutions. The fantastic turnout of parents and the pleasant weather were the perfect boost for the students on the sports day.

The opening ceremony commenced with a prayer by Rev. G. Daud, Secretary, Allahabad High School Society (AHSS) followed by the welcome address by the Academic Supervisor, Mrs. C. B. Luke. The events began with a colourful March Past by the four Houses namely, St. Andrew’s House, St George’s House, St. Patrick’s House and St. Peter’s House. The marching contingent was led by Sports Captain, Sanchit Upadhyay, followed by College Captain, Laksh Kawatra, Vice Captain, Pratyush Mishra, Cultural Captain Harsh Gaur and Vice Cultural Captain Akshat Rai. The Chief Guest took the salute of the March Past. On behalf of the competitors, the College Captain, Laksh Kawatra took the oath and solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. The Chief Guest declared the sports meet open and then followed the breath-taking spectacle of the ceremonial lighting of the torch by a team of sportsmen who represented the state and brought laurels to the school. The torch bearers were Harshit Nath, Mazhar Hasan (Swimming), Saksham Awasthi (Cricket), Ayushya Jaiswal (Basketball), Satvik Shangloo (Karate), Peeyush Singh (Badminton), Raghu Agarwal (Athletics) and Sanchit Upadhyay (Athletics).

In a spectacular display in field and track events, St. George’s bagged the top honours with 540 points followed by St. Peter’s House 415, St. Andrew’s House 370 and St. Patrick’s House with 282 points for the second, third and fourth place respectively.

Nursery kids in the characters of tiny frogs jumped and hopped in and out of the pond to compete in “Froggy Leap” race. Next up was the “Threading the Beads” race by Prep kids in which they had to make the garland. The students of class I extended their big feet forward contesting to win “the Big Foot” race. A race titled “Slow and Steady wins the Race” was displayed by Class II students. Solving the puzzle of blocks, students of class III displayed the race titled “Building Blocks”.

After the colourful races, much-awaited drills started. Nursery and Prep kids showcased creative drill, “Kung-fu Masters and the Dragons”. Thereafter, students of class I and II took everyone to the tour of world in the drill, “Around the word in Twenty Minutes”. After this, the whole atmosphere was filled with the spirit of patriotism when Class III and IV students presented the drill, “the Guardians of the Nation”. Class V and VI students holding musical instruments highlighted the fusion of music in the drill “The Sound of Music”. Class IX students displayed the drill “Basketball Mania” in showcasing their skills in basketball. Lastly, the students of class VII and VIII performed the drill “Ignite, Kindle and Radiate Sheer Radiance” giving the message that we really have the power to illuminate all negative things in our life.

The special performance put up by the CRPF Band was highly acclaimed and applauded by the audience. The prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest, Dr. Shalini Sngh, Second In Command/Chief Medical Officer, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). In her motivational address, Dr. Singh spoke on the virtues of honesty and competitiveness for success in life and applauded the efforts of the students and teachers for putting up a spectacle befitting grand occasion. Reminiscing her own school days, she expressed confidence that the future of every child in this great institution is bright and secured. The function came to a close with a vote of thanks by the Academic Supervisor, Mrs. C. B. Luke. The function was conducted by Mr. L.A.M. French, In-charge, College Section.
