The three-day CISCE UP & UK Regional Swimming Meet for boys and girls, hosted by the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College for the second consecutive year was inaugurated by the BHS Principal Mr. D. A. Luke on Friday. Excitement, enthusiasm and grandeur marked the inaugural ceremony as Mr. Luke released balloons in the air amidst cheers from the contestants and the audience.

Nearly 240 swimmers from nine zones, namely, Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Lucknow (Zone A and Zone B), Kanpur (North), Meerut and Uttrakhand are participating in this prestigious competition. The swimming meet is held in three categories, i.e. Sub Junior boys and girls under 14 years, Junior boys and girls under 17 years and Senior boys and girls under 19 years. The events included in the competition are Breast Stroke, Back Stroke, Butterfly, Free Style, Individual Medley and Relay.

The programme commenced with a prayer by Mr. J. Lawrence followed by a special song by the BHS Choir.The highlight of the opening ceremony was the Swim Past by the 31 swimmers of Allahabad zone led by the BHS star swimmer Harshit Nath, who has participated in National Swimming championship and has won one gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

Inaugurating the CISCE Regional Swimming Meet, the BHS Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke welcomed the young swimmers and their support staff to this prestigious competition and hoped that their stay in Boys’ High School and College would be comfortable and a memorable one. He urged the young competitors to compete with a spirit of grit and determination and display high-level of sportsmanship during the event.

On the first day, 36 events were conducted for sub-junior, junior and senior boys and girls in 100 mts Back Stroke, 50 mts Butterfly, and 200mts Free Style swimming.
