158th Founders’ Day Celebration

Boys’ High School (BHS) and College celebrated its 158th Founders’ Day and Thanksgiving Service with much fanfare and aplomb along with Girls’ High School (GHS) and College on Tuesday. The day marked a significant milestone in the history and heritage of the school which has been imparting education to the children since its establishment on November 5th, 1861.

To be grateful is the best prayer one could say. It expresses humility, understanding and a deep sense of belonging towards the one we are grateful. The Thanksgiving Service was held at the historic All Saints’ Cathedral. The atmosphere inside the Church was solemn and deeply expressive of the gratitude to the Almighty for having blessed both BHS and GHS with fulfillment of their mission to serve the society by imparting quality education and churning out responsible citizens of the country.

Smartly dressed students of the school marched in unison creating a colourful spectacle much appreciated by the passersby. The Boys’ High School and College was led by College Captain, Sarvagya Chitranshi while the Girls’ High School and College squad was led by Head Girl, Aatiqa Javed Habib. All the faculty members of Boys’ High School and College and its annexe, Holy Trinity School were present on this momentous occasion.

The Thanksgiving Service commenced as the Principals of BHS and GHS entered the All Saints’ Cathedral to the strains of the hymn, ‘Joyful, joyful we adore thee”. The cross bearer, Enos Lucas and the flag bearers walked solemnly up to the aisle where they handed over the colours to Rev. G. Daud, Presbyter, All Saints’ Cathedral and Secretary, Allahabad High School Society.

The ceremony began with the prayer led by Rev. G. Daud. This was followed by the reading of passages from the Holy Bible by the Principals of BHS and GHS, Mr. D. A. Luke and Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) V. Eusebius respectively.
Addressing the congregation, the Bishop, Diocese of Lucknow, Church of North India, Dr. Peter Baldev emphasized the importance of gratitude in one’s life. He recalled the rich legacy of BHS and College in transforming society through quality education, He ice the contribution of founding fathers and principals for their steadfast leadership towards educational excellence. He asked the students to remain humble in their endeavours and never to forget the role of their teachers and Alma Mater.

After the Thanksgiving Service, the students along with their teachers marched back to their respective institutions. The memorable day was celebrated in the school by the teachers and students in the Middle School Hall. Melodious hymns and birthday song was sung for the 158 years old glorious institution – Boys’ High School and College. Thereafter, a birthday cake was cut by two senior most teachers of the school, Mr. I. Saunders and Mrs. R. Dutt.
