Parents Marathon / Walkathon – 2019

A novel initiative was taken up by the Principal of Boys’ High School and College by organizing a marathon/walkathon for parents. Being himself a sportsman, the Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke took this step with the objective to spread awareness regarding the significance of good health.

More than 400 parents enthusiastically ran the full course from BHS campus to Indira Crossing (Bahuguna Market crossing) and back. The event was flagged off by Principal, Mr. D. A. Luke for the men’s category while the Academic Supervisor, Mrs. C. B. Luke did the honours for the women’s category.

The highlight of the race was that three generations grandfather, father and son were all sportsperson. The grandfather, Moti Lal Pal whose grandson Kunal Pal studying in Prep-D, participated to make this event a huge success.

The women performed better and outsmarted the male participants. Anupama Dwivedi, mother of Praneel Dwivedi of class 6-E clocked 15:10:00 min to complete the race while Ritin Kapoor, father of Advik Khattri of class Prep-B completed the marathon in 18:13.85 min.

The results are as follows: Male category—Mr. Ritin Kapoor-1st; Mohd Azam-2nd , Mr. Ajay Singh-3th; Mr. Ram Prakash Yadav-4th ; Mr. Akshay Mishra-5th ; Mr. A. K. Srivastava-6th ; Mr. Dharmendra Pratap Singh-7th; Mr. Munir Illath-8th; Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh-9th and Mr. Dharamveer Singh-10th Female category—Mrs. Anupama Dwivedi-1st; Mrs. Nidhi Lal-2nd, Mrs. Shilpi Srivastava-3rd; Mrs. Anita Srivastava-4th, Mrs. Gargi Agarwal-5th; Mrs. Priyanka Srivastava-6th; Mrs. Neha Sen-7th; Mrs. Roli Jha-8th; Mrs. Jaya Mishra-9th; Mrs. Sneha Singh-10th.

In his brief address, the Principal, congratulated the winners for taking part in the marathon/walkathon and encouraged them to make sports and games an integral part of their ward’s life. He assured that the massive participation has strengthened his belief that right way of awareness is the most prudent way of fighting the medical malaise prevalent in our youngsters and such events would be a regular part of school’s curriculum. Amidst cheers and applause, the Principal announced that the ten participants in the men and women categories who have completed the race will be awarded medals and prizes on Annual Sports Day on November, 29th, 2019.
